ONE DAY PEER
TRAINING WORKSHOP ON GENDERBASED VIOLENCE FEBRUARY 2010
The Peer Training Programme was organizes to
address the issue of Girl-child development at the same time seek to
reduce incidence of Violence and Discrimination that may impede the
development of the Girl-child. The programme also followed with
proper sensitization on Gender Based Violence and also the review to
the training manual for the youth in school. The manual will assist
the counselor of each school effectively to facilitate the Anti
Violence Clubs during their weekly meeting.
The Anti Violence Club Members were also
sensitized on the Child Right Law that was recently signed by Lagos
State Government. The strength of development of any nation is a
sole function of the quality of its youth. Attendances are about 150
students and teachers.
The objective of the Peer Training Workshop is
to reduce the high rate of violence incident against the Girl-child
and also to inaugurate Antiviolence Clubs in school.
It also allows for the opportunity to discuss
problems and experience of abuse and violence. Through the project,
we were able to raise public awareness on the issues of Violence
Against Women and Girls. It also created a tool for advocacy, and
served as a platform to lobby for zero tolerance on all forms of
violence.
